Damage worth Rs 575 million to roads and bridges in Ilam alone

Ilam, October 5 (Asoj 19).
Continuous rainfall has caused damage worth about Rs 575 million (57 crore 50 lakh) to roads and bridge structures in Ilam district alone. According to preliminary data released by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development of Koshi Province, heavy rain and floods have washed away several roads and bridges, resulting in significant financial loss.

According to Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Bhupendra Rai, roads under Ilam alone suffered an estimated Rs 190 million in damage, while the combined loss to roads and bridges is estimated at Rs 385 million.

Similarly, the Water Resources and Irrigation Development Division Office in Ilam reported that drinking water and irrigation projects worth Rs 37.6 million were damaged, according to the Ministry of Energy, Drinking Water, and Irrigation.

The ministry stated that several roads in Ilam have been blocked by floods and landslides, and many bridges and suspension bridges have been completely destroyed. The government has decided to provide the necessary budget for immediate relief and repair work.

As per the decision of the Disaster Management Committee, Rs 2.5 million has been allocated to Ilam for immediate repairs, temporary shelter, and emergency relief operations.
