119 Parties Submit Applications to the Election Commission for Electoral Participation
Election Commission receives 120 applications, including new alliances and recently registered parties challenging traditional power centers.
Kathmandu, Mangsir 15. Nepal’s political landscape is gearing up for a fierce electoral contest as an unprecedented 119 parties have applied to participate in the forthcoming House of Representatives election, signaling intense competition and shifting political dynamics.
An impressive 119 political parties have submitted 120 applications to the Election Commission as the deadline for party registration closed on Sunday. The surge reflects a growing interest among both established forces and emerging groups to contest the upcoming federal elections.
Among the applicants, 14 parties teamed up to seek a common election symbol, filing six applications as alliances. Interestingly, nine of these parties also filed separate applications, signaling flexible strategies and multi-pronged approaches to the election.
Beyond the alliances, 105 parties have applied independently for registration to enter the House of Representatives race, showing a strong individual push for political presence.
Adding to the political momentum, 25 newly registered parties—formed within the past month—have also stepped into the fray, positioning themselves as fresh challengers to the country’s longstanding political powers. With this surge, the total number of parties registered with the Election Commission has reached 143.
As Nepal moves closer to election season, the unusually high number of interested parties suggests a highly competitive and unpredictable political environment ahead.
