Education Minister Dr. Mahabir Pun Stresses Production-Based Prosperity

Kathmandu: Education Minister Dr. Mahabir Pun has emphasized that true prosperity does not come from importing goods for consumption, but from developing the capacity to produce and sell. Sharing opinion on education, innovation, and national development, Dr. Pun said that Nepal must shift its mindset from dependency to productivity in order to achieve sustainable economic growth.

“Prosperity is not about importing and consuming; it is about producing and selling,” Dr. Pun stated, highlighting the urgent need to strengthen domestic industries, agriculture, science, and technology. He stressed that education should be closely linked with practical skills, innovation, and entrepreneurship so that young people can create jobs rather than only search for them.

The Education Minister pointed out that despite abundant natural resources and a capable youth population, Nepal continues to rely heavily on imports due to weak production systems and a lack of research-based education. He called for reforms in the education sector that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and technological advancement.

Dr. Pun also urged policymakers, educators, and students to work together to build a self-reliant economy. According to him, investing in science, technology, and skill-oriented education is the key to transforming Nepal from an import-dependent nation into a production-driven economy.

His remarks have sparked renewed discussion on the role of education in national development and the need for long-term strategies to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
